In today's world, people are looking for instant gratification and large portion have begun to show that they just simply aren't engaged while they are at work. Working for QuikTrip, I feel as though I have begun to see this more than ever. Employees are seeking to find the easiest and fastest ways to complete a task, and frequently that task gets done to sub-par standards.

A declining work ethic within a younger generation has generated a lot of the problems. I notice newer employees coming in and instantly becoming upset when they are asked to do a task that they feel like they don't want to do or don't feel as though they should have to do. Realizing what your job positions entails is key to understanding what a company is going to expect from you. A simple example of this is cleaning restrooms, and QuikTrip has developed a very good reputation for having clean restrooms. Employees are trained on how to clean and how often to clean restrooms right from the start. When these employees become upset over the tasks assigned to them, it not only shows a poor work ethic, but also hurts the team morale on that shift.

Running shifts where everyone accepts their jobs and does them without hesitation creates a shift where we can smile, have fun, and work together in harmony. When a team is acting like a team, customers can easily take notice and they enjoy being part of that. When you earn the trust of a customer, they become customers for life.

There are many examples and I hope to hear from everyone, so what are some of the stories and experiences that you have encountered when it comes to poor work ethic and poor morale?
